Financial position of the Group. In 2009, total assets of the Deutsche Telekom Group increased by EUR 4.7 billion year-on-year to EUR 127.8 billion. On the assets side, an increase was recorded primarily as a result of the acquisition of OTE, which was fully consolidated for the first time in the reporting year. In turn, this caused a reduction of EUR 3.4 billion in the amount shown in other non-current assets accounted for using the equity method in the statement of financial position. In addition, intangible assets decreased as a result of impairment losses on goodwill. Liabilities were affected by an increase of EUR 4.6 billion in current and non-current financial liabilities. Shareholders’ equity decreased by EUR 1.2 billion, primarily as a consequence of the dividend payment (EUR 4.3 billion).
